Protist Résumé Project

If protists had to apply for their positions (jobs) in their environments, what would they say about themselves? For this project, you will select one species from the protist kingdom to research. This list includes examples of protist you may want to choose from. Learn all you can about your protist, and then create a résumé of your protist’s attributes and contributions to their ecosystems.

Make sure the following items are included in your résumé:

  • The scientific name for your protist, along with its phylum and a current “address” (common ecosystem location).
  • A description of the job your protist is seeking and in what ecosystem the job is located.
  • A description of your protist’s morphology (shape), an explanation of how they obtain their food, and a description of their form of locomotion (if they have one).
  • Three attributes or contributions your chosen protist could make to the environment it inhabits.
  • Include three “references” for the prospective employer to contact to verify the attributes of your chosen protist. These “references” are not website citations. Instead, they should be a list of species in the same phylum as your protist. Make sure to include the location each of these related protists can be found. For example, if your protist was Mesostigma Viride, Green Algae Subdivision, a reference of that species could be Chlamydomonadales, an orgamism that is in the same subdivision and lives in aquatic colonies.
  • You may choose any format you wish for your résumé. It can follow the student example provided but does not have to replicate it.
  • When researching your protist, make sure you are using educational or science-based websites. These websites are a more reliable source of information.

You can create your résumé in any of the following ways:

  • Use any word processor program.
  • Use any drawing or presentation program. Go to the Web 2.0 tools button for options.
