Basic Principles of Communication

Week One Assignment Instructions

In section 1.4, Bevan and Sole (2014) discuss many principles of communication – taking responsibility for your behavior, shared meaning, acknowledging your view is only one, respecting others and yourself, and practicing being a competent communicator. In this assignment, you will explain two of these basic principles and then think through them with an example of miscommunication from your life or a hypothetical scenario. To close, you will identify a challenge Bevan and Sole address (see Section 1.3 on misperception, long-distance relationships and intergenerational relationship) or some other barrier that disrupted the process of communication and how this can be overcome.

Here is the assignment breakdown:

  • Drawing on Chapter one in Bevan and Sole (see section 1.4 specifically), explain two basic principles of interpersonal communication.
  • Describe an instance of miscommunication (it is okay for you to use a hypothetical).
  • Identify one or more challenge (see Bevan and Sole, Section 1.3) or barrier that caused this miscommunication.
  • Explain how that challenge or barrier interrupted the process of successful communication and how they can be overcome based on what you’ve learned in this course.

When you’ve completed the first draft of your paper, use the grading rubric (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. to assess how you did. If you see weaknesses in any section, spend some additional time with that section.

Saul,

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) was created in December of 2004 by a group of major credit card companies which consist of VISA, Discover, American Express, JCB, and MasterCard. “The standard was created to increase controls around cardholder data to reduce credit card fraud.” (Shakeel, 2016). There are several important factors that make up a foundational standard when handling customer information. The PCI DSS outlines certain data that has to be protected and ensures businesses conform with it by meeting certain requirements. One of these outlines states that robust firewalls have to be implemented to secure the network that will process and handle customer transactions to ensure there isn’t inconvenience to the vender or cardholder. Another states that vendor default information is not to be used for passwords or PINs on the site where customers conduct business. Customers will be able to change their password and PINs whenever they want. Also, the systems that are used to conduct business are to be protected against hackers by installing and updating anti-malware, anti-virus, and anti-spyware software. This ensures that any vulnerabilities or bugs are detected so they can be addressed to prevent any exposure of customer data. “When you stay compliant, you are part of the solution – a united, global response to fighting payment card data compromise.” (PCI, 2019)

When customers use personal information for business transactions, there is certain type of data that must be protected. Some of this data includes: social security numbers, birth dates, phone numbers, addresses, and mother or father maiden name. This data should be encrypted to protect it against any hackers. Digital encryption is vital for all forms of digital transfers of data. Red Clay must ensure that they abide by the PCI DSS standard to properly handle and protect customer information when doing credit card transactions.

It is important to comply with the proper standards and policy guidelines that carry out business transactions world-wide. Red Clay must ensure that its information collection and business practices are according to regulations that will reinforce customer trust and credibility. “Failing to provide adequate protection against different threats also subjects you to penalties form laws protecting citizen of other countries doing business with you.” (Stringfellow, 2018).

Analysis of an engineering system

I need one page analysis of a Drone system, and must demonstrate either: the successful planning or implementation of at least three elements drawn from the life cycle functions, technical management elements or steps of the systems engineering process; or the results of failure to apply these elements.

Depending on how much has been published on your System, you might need to extend the data you have to ‘recommended’ Systems Engineering Management practices.

once you finish the analysis I need you to write one page on Other System Management Issues related to the drone, there are the issues that encounter managers and engineers during the management of system engineering the effect in decision making and even in the implementation processes.

Discuss the 5 levels of learner evaluation and provide an example of each. There are five levels of learning evaluation: the needs assessment, process, outcomes, and impact. The five levels of learner evaluation as discussed by Bastable, (2013), are level 0 (needs assessment) which is learner’s dissatisfaction and readiness to learn, level 1 (initial process) , which is learner’s participation and satisfaction during intervention, level 2 (initial process), which is learner’s performance and satisfaction after intervention, level 3 (long-term process), which is learner’s performance and attitude in daily setting, and level 4 (ongoing process), which is learner’s maintaining performance and attitude. These 5 levels can explain how nursing students would start their process of evaluation and feedback during a nursing clinical environment setting.

Response#1The postings should be approximately 100 words (about 1/2 page length) and include references as indicated by the instructor. Need 2 References and in-text citations should conform to the APA format.

The learner evaluation tool is very helpful for when instructors need to do the assessment, process, outcomes, and impact. There are 5 different levels that are used to determine what the learners level is and if they are ready to learn. The first level is when you are figuring out their actual readiness to learn. The 2nd and 3rd levels are important because they help the preceptor or instructor to figure out and check the participants satisfaction and how well they are actually learning the project or assignment they are working on. The 4th level with is working to determine the performance that has occurred in the daily setting for this learner. The final level reviews the learners maintained performance and the completion of the activity.(Bastable, 2014).

These different levels of assessment can be done in the clinical setting. When the nursing students are new to the clinical sites the instructors can work from the beginning and determine if the students are ready to learn, and then once they start learning how well their performance is and then overall if they are able to apply what they have learned in the classroom and how well they are applying it from that into the clinical settings. At the end of the clinical term the overall progress from the start to the finish and where they have come from the start.

The zero level of the learner evaluation is the needs assessment. Here the learner is evaluated regarding dissatisfaction and readiness to learn the information Bastable, 2014). An example of this level would be questionnaires or a structured interview to identify the learner’s needs (Grant, 2002). The level one evaluation is the learner’s participation and satisfaction during the actual intervention (initial process). How well did the learner participate and did the learner feel they got what they needed. Is the learner’s progress moving in a positive direction as planned. The second level focuses on the learner’s performance and satisfaction after the intervention. Was the learner able to sustain their performance after the initial process and again were the learner’s needs met. Level three focuses on the learner’s performance and attitude in the daily setting (Long term outcome). How well does the learner apply what has been learned and assimilate what they learned in day to day activities. Level four is the ongoing impact, and how the learner has maintained their performance and attitude. This level would evaluate the overall impact the learning has and if what was learned was maintained over time (Bastable, 2014). The evaluation process can focus on a particular education class or it can involve both the teaching process and the patient/student outcomes.
