GEOG102 Johnson Water Resources Causes and Solution Paper

The goal of this writing assignment is to get you to think critically about water resource availability worldwide. Carefully read all six of the articles and the two links provided. Any or all of these can be your sources. You may use additional sources, if you choose, but it is not necessary. You must use more than one source.

Your purpose is to explain, so you will be writing an informative or expository paper and will be concerned with presenting facts accurately, and completely.

Use the following as a guide in establishing your format and content:

  • Is there a problem or issue? What is it? In the introduction, the problem should be stated and any necessary background information (key terms) needed to understand the problem, should be addressed. (Introduction)
  • What are the causes of the problem? Why did it happen? For whom is this a problem? What are the effects of the problem? Why is it a problem? (Body)
  • Is there a solution to the problem? What are the options to solving the problem? What are the various ways to solve the problem? What resources are available? (Body)
  • Restate the problem and summarize key points. (Conclusion)

The JCCC Writing Center’s website also provides several helpful handouts to get you started.

Take the time to organize your thoughts; clarity and coherence are important in evaluating the completed assignment. Understand that correct spelling and grammar is expected. Your paper should be about 800 – 1200 words (approximately two to three pages of double-spaced 12pt font). Make sure to cite your sources, using APA or MLA format.
