1. Systems thinking is a technical term for checks and balances within a system. Using these checks and balances or systems thinking, one can utilize the system itself to incorporate a better system.

One example is the HIPAA system. This is system thinking at its best; the privacy and protection of both the medical community and the receiver of the healthcare. This system protects the patient from biased care, poor services, confidentiality and the right to privacy within the community of the health facility. It also protects the patient from insurance companies or employers from using their health care information as a reason for hire or termination. The Department of Health and Human services are using the system thinking in healthcare to establish policies and promote the exchange of the needed medical records through computers/EPIC in a private and secure way. As the system thinking is continually changing, the system becomes ever evolving. It is designed in such a way through the system thinking that one can have access to some records but not all. Depending on the clearance, one only has access to what is essential to their particular job performance for the patient at the time of service.

2. System thinking is a fundamental that creates a never ending improvement. Technology is moving every minute of every day so the way we think about systems and the thinking process should change. I work for a company that required changes on a daily basis through Medicare Systems. It is important to understand the changes and think of how things can improve. When we think about system thinking and how it could improve by technology, equipment, staff, etc. It is important to understand how things works and could be used. For example, system thinking if there is a new site that need to be added to every computer in the doctor office or hospital we would need to think of what is going to be more efficient for the customers and the staff and the costs. The design would need to change to stand out for the customers also to get the staff attention. It is important to learn as system is growing.
