Miami Dade College Availability & Prices of Saliva Substitute Product Report

Salivary Substitute Report Guidelines

You are to research a saliva substitute product from four brick and mortar stores/pharmacies (actual stores) and one online store/pharmacy. My suggestion is to choose stores near where you live or plan to work as a dental hygienist in the future so you can use the information gained through this assignment to inform your future patients about availability and prices of saliva substitute products.

This is an informal report about your findings. Informal does not mean spelling and punctuation do not matter. Think as a patient trying to find the product. Many of the patients using these products are older and may have physical disabilities. Think about ease of finding the store, parking, and placement of the product in the store and on the shelf. Consider the variety of products available and are the products in one place or are they spread out (e.g. toothpaste is in a different area than the mouth rinse). When searching for products online consider shipping and handling and any discounts that may be offered.

While you are researching stores for saliva substitute products, take a look at all the oral health care products available in the store. Patients will ask your opinion about products. You should be informed about what is availiable to the public. The results of this activity will also help you communicate information to your future patients. For example, Walmart may offer a product for a less expensive price but the store is located on a very busy road or the parking lot is large and a person with a disability may need to walk a distance to the store.

  • Once you have compiled all your data, type a 2-page report comparing and contrasting your findings.
  • Double-spaced (including between paragraphs) 5 space indent for paragraph.
  • Times New Roman 12 point font.
  • 1 inch side margins and 1 inch top and bottom margins.
  • Use proper grammar, spelling and punctuation.
