Unit 5: Topic 2: The Nurse’s Role in the Accountable Care Act

The Affordable Care Act will have a major impact on healthcare and advance practice nurses will play a major role in the advance quality care given to patients. In the future, we will be seeing and using more advanced practice nurses in the health reform. There will be great benefit in advance practice nurses in healthcare. Research has shown that over 26 million Americans have healthcare insurance due to The Affordable Care Act (Erickson, 2016). The Affordable Care Act incorporates preventive care and makes the possibility for all to have healthcare insurance (Lathrop & Hodnicki, 2014). Physicians along with advance practice nurses will partake in a serious part in primary high quality care that patients will receive. Some advance practice nurses have advanced in their education in obtaining a Doctor of Nursing Practice and therefore; they serve as primary care providers in taking the initiative in leadership roles advocating quality care (Lathrop & Hodnicki, 2014). Nonphysician medical providers (NPMPs) are in a great position to enforce change in quality of care (Boucher, McMillen & Gould, 2015). It’s important that substantial leadership takes the lead in patient’s care. This can lead to a country having high-quality care for patients. There are still adjustments that will need to be made in the healthcare system to continue and promote a country to have a high quality care to patients.
