Please respond with a paragraph to the following question, add citations and references:

Erin Murphy is a five-term Minnesota state representative who started her career as a nurse. I chose to review this legislator because she was born in Janesville, Wisconsin close to my hometown, and studied her bachelor’s degree nearby at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Erin Murphy started her career as a medical-surgical nurse and later transferred to a surgical ward as an operating room nurse. In 1988, Murphy moved from Wisconsin to Minnesota to work at the University of Minnesota Hospital on the transplant team. Murphy felt compelled to follow a calling into the work of politics so in 1989 she started a job with the Minnesota Nurses Association. Murphy worked to pass an insurance program for low to moderate income workers called MinnesotaCare, the bill took three long years to pass and took many like minded nurses to help educate and persuade law makers.

Murphy won her first election for the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2006. In her first two years, she helped pass reforms in the health care system that expanded access to affordable care and coverage for all people. She also worked to create a health care model that focused on wellness, prevention, self-management and community. It seems that Erin Murphy definitely had a passion for helping people and seemed to focus a lot of her time and resources to ensure that everyone in Minnesota had access to affordable health care. I really enjoyed learning about her journey through this assignment.
