philosophy-of-language-true-and-false-sentences-prompt-in-details

Prompt:

Consider the Wittgensteinian claim:

To understand a sentence means to know what would make it true and what would make it false.

Present some argument back and forth about this claim, focusing on Austin’s contribution to the debate in How to Do Things With Words, and being sure to consider concrete examples of sentences.

Requirements:

MLA format 3 pages double spaced.

I will attach the reading by Austin and 3 handouts which may help with writing the paper.

Include a bibliography of works consulted (I don’t mind in what form), and in-line citations wherever you quote or paraphrase the writings of another person. If you are not sure how to cite in-line refer to this website for help https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/m…

Do not use any other sources besides Austin reading.

If you use the handouts anywhere in the paper please cite it and use the date in the top right corner. example of how to cite would be: Cumming, Handout: 4.9.19.
