The Personal Health Record and Health Care Databases

Using a research database, conduct a web search on the subject of the Personal Health Record. The PHR is mainly for the patient’s and family’s use, and is intended to accumulate information across providers. It is not the same thing as an electronic health record (EHR) maintained at the provider level. Both the United States CMS (Medicare) and private providers have begun to promote the use of a PHR. You may utilize the Rasmussen Library Resource Home page E-Resources, Discovery All-in-One Search to locate online databases.

  • Explain through examining advantages of having your personal health record on a dataset you may access.
  • What would be one potential disadvantage or risk of using a PHR?
  • Would you personally want to use a PHR site to maintain information? Why or why not?
